Analysis of Interlocking Coercive Methods

Read the following scenario: A worker is recruited for a job in another country with the promise of a good salary. Upon arrival, their passport is taken by the employer for 'safekeeping'. The worker is then told they have a large, unexpected debt to repay for their travel and recruitment fees. They are housed in a guarded compound, are not allowed to leave without permission, and are threatened with harm to their family back home if they complain or try to escape.

Analyze this scenario by identifying three distinct methods of coercion being used. For each method, explain how it contributes to the situation of forced labor and how the methods work together to trap the worker.
