Appraisal-Based Definition of Stress

This perspective conceptualizes stress as a dynamic process involving an individual's perception and response to events. Central to this view is the concept of appraisal, where a person judges an event as either overwhelming or threatening to their well-being. These appraisals are critical as they directly shape the individual's subsequent reactions to the event, which is often termed a stressor.
