Attachment Styles Identified in the Strange Situation
Based on infant responses during the Strange Situation procedure, Mary Ainsworth originally identified three distinct patterns of parent-child attachment: secure, avoidant, and resistant. A fourth category, disorganized attachment, was later introduced by researchers Main and Solomon to classify behaviors that did not fit the initial three styles.

A researcher is using a well-established procedure to study the bond between 1-year-old infants and their primary caregivers. The procedure involves observing the infant's behavior through a sequence of separations and reunions in an unfamiliar playroom.
