In Section 17 of the Mosibat Nameh, Farid al-Din Attar strongly condemns sectarian prejudice (ta'assub) and blind imitation (taqlid). He argues that factionalism divides the spiritual community, multiplying division and hindering genuine realization. Attar advises the spiritual seeker to distinguish between base human disposition or instinct (tabi'at) and true divine law (shari'at), suggesting that dogmatic partisanship and imitation stem from human ego rather than spiritual truth. By abandoning blind imitation and factional bias, the seeker can burn away polytheism (shirk) and immerse themselves in true monotheism (tawhid).
