Automatic Thoughts

Automatic thoughts are the spontaneous, involuntary, and often unconscious thoughts that arise in response to specific situations or triggers. They can be positive, negative, or neutral. In Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), individuals learn to recognize these thoughts and understand how they influence emotions and behavior; negative automatic thoughts (such as self-criticism or catastrophic thinking) can perpetuate emotional distress and psychological difficulties.
