Aversion Therapy for Alcoholism Using Antabuse
Aversion therapy is a well-established treatment for alcoholism. A common method involves the use of a drug called Antabuse. When an individual on Antabuse consumes alcohol, they experience severe negative side effects like nausea, vomiting, and heart palpitations. By repeatedly pairing alcohol consumption with these unpleasant reactions, the person develops a conditioned aversion. This process effectively replaces the pleasurable feelings associated with alcohol with negative ones, thereby reducing the desire to drink.
