Benefit of Service Dogs to Veterans with PTSD: Calm/Comfort and Interrupt/Alert Anxiety
A PTSD service dog's ability to respond to and help ease their veteran owner's distress and anxiety has been seen to be some of the most essential and beneficial components of this form of intervention. They are the most frequently utilized learned tasks and are most effective at helping PTSD symptoms. One way service dogs do this is by nudging the veteran when they are experiencing flashbacks. This helps to interrupt it and anchor the veteran in the present reality.
