Concept

Blood Type and Risk of COVID-19

  • 187 patients were separated into 4 different groups based on blood types (A, B, AB, O)
  • Type A and Type B blood were the most common in the patients
  • Those with Type A blood were at greater risk of developing COVID-19
  • Those with Type O blood were at lower risk of developing COVID-19
  • The data for Type AB blood is not statistically significant, since the p-value is greater than 0.05

Epidemiological relation

  • The OR for Type A blood compared to other blood types came out to be 1.544, indicating a 54% increased risk of getting COVID-19
  • The OR for Type O blood came out to be 0.649, indicating a 35% decreased risk of developing COVID-19
