Body and Soul included mentions of the impact of ableism on Black women, notably without using the word ableism. Body and Soul's engagement with disability comes after a discussion of common chronic health concerns and disabilities faced by Black women there is a note of how often society both interpersonally and politically ignores the needs and personhood of disabled individuals. Body and Soul notes that this is only worse for Black individuals who are disabled because they are often not granted access to the very few federal government services for disabled Americans, e.g. Social Security disability programs.
