Concept

Brain structural volume reduction in patients with schizoaffective disorder and schizophrenia

Both patient groups with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder showed similar areas of volume reduction, while patients with bipolar disorder showed no areas of volume reduction when compared to healthy patients. None of the groups had a significant gray matter volume increase. The following image displays significant gray matter volume reduction in patients with schizoaffective disorder and schizophrenia compared to the healthy patient group. The top panel (a) shows the reductions in volume in patients with schizophrenia, while the bottom panel (b) displays volume reductions in patients with schizoaffective disorder.
