Nosological implications
Do these findings have any consequences for the nosological status of schizoaffective disorder? These findings are not compatible with the thought that schizoaffective disorder is a variation of bipolar disorder. There is a proposal that states how schizoaffective disorder is classified as a sort of "midpoint along a continuum of psychosis" (genetically/clinically). The findings from this study are most congenial with schizoaffective disorder being a variation of schizophrenia. Another possible theory of schizoaffective disorder is that it's an intermediate form of illness that directs towards schizophrenia.
