Caffeine Dependence

Despite its widespread social acceptance, caffeine use can lead to substance dependence. This is characterized by a pattern of increased consumption over time to achieve desired effects, such as mood enhancement. Such dependence can lead to significant negative health outcomes and may meet the clinical criteria for a substance use disorder.
