Short Answer

Calculating Value Added in a Production Chain

Consider the production process for a bicycle. A steel company sells raw steel to a frame manufacturer for $40. The frame manufacturer builds a bicycle frame and sells it to a bicycle assembly company for $90. The assembly company adds wheels, gears, and other components (which it purchased from another firm for $60) to the frame and sells the completed bicycle to a retail store for $200. The retail store then sells the bicycle to a final customer for $275. Based on this information, what is the value added by the bicycle assembly company?
