Characteristics of Soft Prompts

Soft prompts are dense, low-dimensional, and learnable representations that exist as hidden states within a model's embedding space. A key characteristic is that they do not need to correspond to or be interpreted as meaningful text. Instead, they are treated as standard model parameters that can be learned through continuous optimization, allowing for the exploration of prompting methods beyond natural language.
