Classification of Claimants on a Firm's Revenue

Parties with a claim on a firm's revenue can be divided into two groups based on the nature of their claim. The first group, which includes employees, managers, suppliers, and creditors, holds contractual claims that must be paid first. The second group consists of the firm's owners, who are residual claimants, meaning they are entitled only to the profit that remains after all contractual claims have been settled.
