Coefficient of a Term

The coefficient of a term is the constant factor that multiplies the variable portion of the term. It can be thought of as the numerical value situated in front of the variable. For instance, in the term 3x3x, the coefficient is 33. When a variable is written by itself without an explicit number, such as xx, its coefficient is implicitly 11, because xx is equivalent to 1x1 \cdot x.
