Cognitive Dissonance vs. Persuasion as Mechanisms for Attitude Change

Attitude change can be prompted by both internal and external factors. Internal motivation often arises from the psychological discomfort of cognitive dissonance, where an individual alters their attitudes to resolve internal conflicts. In contrast, persuasion represents an external source of attitude change, where communication from outside forces is used to influence a person's attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.
