Cognitive quality is the quality of the students' cognitive ideas used in their group discussion. When quality is high, this allows for clearer communication of ideas during discussions and integration of course material into the task at hand. This further improves the task cohesion and creates a better outcome in how they perform.

Collective efficacy is the shared belief that the group as a whole is able to perform the task. The greater the collective efficacy is the greater the group cohesion is. Additionally, when group cohesion is also high, this increases the belief system that the group has the capacity to complete the task (i.e. collective efficacy).
