Short Answer

Comparing the Quality of 'Free Time'

Consider two individuals, Alex and Ben. Both work 40 hours per week at paid jobs and thus have 128 hours of 'free time' each week (assuming a 168-hour week). Alex spends 30 of these hours on essential unpaid household chores and childcare. Ben spends only 5 hours on similar tasks. Based on the economic model of labor choice, explain why, despite having the same total hours of 'free time', the effective value or utility they derive from this time is likely different.
