Comparison of Central and Peripheral Routes to Persuasion

The central and peripheral routes to persuasion differ based on the audience, processing method, and outcome. The central route involves a motivated, analytical audience; high-effort processing of the message's content; and results in a lasting attitude change. In contrast, the peripheral route involves an unmotivated, non-analytical audience; low-effort processing based on external cues; and leads to a temporary attitude change.
