Assumption of Revealed Preference in Cross-Country Labor Models

When analyzing cross-country labor data, as in Figure 3.25, a critical assumption is made to infer worker preferences. The underlying data on work hours and consumption does not inherently contain information about preferences. Therefore, analysts must assume that the observed data points reflect the actual choices made by workers. Only with this assumption can the model be used to draw conclusions about the differing preferences for work and leisure among countries.
