The study examined the efficacy of MI among depression patients in addition to usual care in an outpatient psychiatry clinic setting. The results provided preliminary evidence for a positive impact on decreasing hazardous drinking from short-term check-ins. Further research should be conducted in a larger sample with longer follow-ups so that patients could benefit from being divided up based on cannabis use. Examining results from primary care settings would also be a promising next step in studying this treatment model. This is because most of the patients who have depression end up getting support and services here.
