Conclusions on Mental Health Consequences of Traumatic Brain Injury
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a common neurological injury linked to severe diseases. Mental health problems, such as emotional, cognitive, physical, and behavioral issues, are significant impacts of TBI that alter quality of life and day-to-day functioning. Concussions present with physical, somatic, and cognitive symptoms. While mild TBI (mTBI) may cause detrimental long-term issues, evidence is currently limited. In contrast, mental health problems following moderate to severe TBI are common and can include apathy, impulsivity, and affective symptoms.
