Conclusions
This survey-based analysis of racial discrimination and mental health impacts is focused on both the burden and cost of diseases due to experiencing racial discrimination, particularly in Australia. Based on nationally representative surveys, about 22-24% of males, and about 19-20% of females, aged 17-34 experience racial discrimination to a significant degree. The study focuses on four main mental illnesses associated with racial discrimination: depression, anxiety, PTSD, and psychological disorder. Based on the surveys conducted & data analyzed, experiences of racial discrimination can account for up to a 20% of increase in prevalence for mental illness in those experiencing racial discrimination.
