Confocal Pinhole

A confocal pinhole is a key structural component of a confocal microscope that is used to reject out-of-focus background fluorescence. By eliminating this out-of-focus flare, the pinhole enables the microscope to capture thin (<1<1 μm), unblurred optical sections, which greatly enhances the effective sensitivity and resolution when viewing thick specimens compared to traditional fluorescence microscopy.
