Correlation Between Fossil Fuel Emissions and Atmospheric CO2

The data described in the caption for Figure 1.2a reveals a strong positive correlation between the increase in global carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels, starting around 1750, and the sharp rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations that began shortly thereafter. The parallel upward trajectories of both trends strongly suggest a direct relationship between the two phenomena.
