COVID-19 infodemic: More retweets for science-based information on coronavirus than for false information findings
- The sample of tweets obtained in this study contained twice as many tweets containing false information, indicated that there is a larger proportion of misinformation on Twitter than factual information
- While false information may be tweeted more frequently, they do not get retweeted as much as tweets containing true information
- Within the population of tweets containing true information, tweets that also had scientific evidence and fact-checking purposes were more likely to be retweeted than tweets in any other of the 7 categories
- Could be explained with the fact that the scientific community is more likely going to respond and post scientific information to debunk false information being spread on social media
