Critique of a Revenue Maximization Strategy

The manager of a company that sells a popular brand of gourmet coffee argues: 'To make the most money, our strategy should be simple: maximize our total sales revenue. We can achieve this by producing as much coffee as we can and lowering the price as needed to sell every last bag. Higher revenue must lead to higher profit.'

Critically evaluate this manager's reasoning. Explain why a business strategy focused solely on maximizing total revenue will not necessarily lead to the highest possible total profit. In your answer, be sure to discuss the relationships between quantity, price, total revenue, and total costs.
