Short Answer

Critique of Indifference Map Interpretation

A fellow student argues: 'Since a consumer is indifferent between any two points on the same curve, it means they are indifferent between all possible combinations of goods shown on an indifference map. Therefore, a point on a curve close to the origin provides the same satisfaction as a point on a curve far from the origin.' Critically evaluate this statement. Is the reasoning correct? Explain why or why not, using the principles that govern preference rankings between different curves.
