Critiquing a Model of Economic Stagnation

An economic model is presented that explains how, for much of human history, any improvement in production methods ultimately resulted in a larger population rather than a sustained increase in income per person. While this model can effectively demonstrate the economic consequences of a new farming technique, a historian argues it is fundamentally incomplete for explaining the transition to modern economic growth. What is the primary limitation of this model that the historian is likely pointing to? Analyze why this limitation is critical when trying to understand the shift from an era of stagnation to one of sustained growth.
