Cultural Differences in the Interpretation of Eye Contact
The meaning of direct eye contact is not universal and is heavily influenced by culture. In many Western cultures, such as the United States and Europe, making eye contact is typically seen as a sign of honesty and attentiveness. Conversely, in most Latin-American, Asian, and African cultures, direct eye contact is often interpreted as rude, confrontational, or aggressive.
