A cultural mismatch between teachers and students can negatively impact educational achievement. Black students may feel alienated in school if their previous cultural experiences are ignored or undervalued. Furthermore, research indicates that even in predominantly Black schools, teachers may inadvertently convey hidden messages of Black social deviance.
