Deconstructing a Worker's Response to a Wage Increase

Imagine a worker's hourly wage increases. This leads them to a new, preferred combination of daily free time and consumption (Point D). To analyze this decision, an economist constructs a hypothetical choice (Point C) which would give the worker the exact same level of satisfaction as their final choice (Point D), but is based on the original opportunity cost of free time. The worker's choice moves from this hypothetical Point C (involving 20.5 hours of free time) to their final actual choice, Point D (involving 19.5 hours of free time).

In your response, analyze this specific movement from C to D. Explain the economic principle this movement isolates and describe why, in response to the higher wage, this principle leads the worker to choose less free time.
