Defining Technology Intensity by Input Ratios

The intensity of a production technology is defined by the ratio of different inputs it requires. A technology is considered more intensive in one input relative to another (e.g., more 'energy-intensive' relative to labor) if it uses a greater amount of that input for each unit of the other input to produce a given level of output.
