Deflationary Expectations and Postponed Consumption

During a period of deflation, households often anticipate that prices will continue to fall. This expectation incentivizes them to delay non-essential purchases, especially of durable goods like cars and appliances, hoping to buy them for less in the future. This widespread postponement of consumption reduces overall spending and can worsen an economic downturn.
