Dependent Personality Disorder
Dependent Personality Disorder (commonly abbreviated as DPD) is a personality disorder characterized by intense separation anxiety and an excessive need to be taken care of by others. People with Dependent Personality Disorder display several or more of the following characteristics in ways that hinder social and workplace functioning:
- Difficulty making simple decisions without advice and reassurance
- Extreme reluctance to disagree with others for fear of losing emotional support
- Avoidance of project initiation due to a lack of self-confidence in judgement or abilities
- Tendency to immediately seek new relationships when old ones end
- Preoccupation with fears of being left to care for self
