Designing a Social Dilemma

Invent a novel, real-world scenario (not related to prisoners, competitive business pricing, or arms races) that functions as a two-player, one-shot prisoners' dilemma. Your response must:

  1. Clearly define the two 'players' and the two strategic choices available to each.
  2. Create a 2x2 payoff matrix with plausible, numerical payoffs that represent the outcomes for each player.
  3. Explain why your created scenario meets the two critical conditions of a prisoners' dilemma: a. Each player has a dominant strategy (a best choice regardless of what the other player does). b. The outcome from both players choosing their dominant strategy is worse for both than if they had both chosen their other strategy.
