Determining if a Number is a Solution to an Equation

To determine whether a specific number is a solution to an equation, follow a three-step process. First, substitute the given number in place of the variable wherever it appears in the equation. Second, simplify the mathematical expressions on both the left and right sides of the equation. Finally, evaluate whether the resulting equation forms a true statement (i.e., the value on the left side is exactly equal to the value on the right side). If the statement is true, the number is a solution. If it is not true, the number is not a solution.
