Determining the Altruism Threshold for Strategic Change

Two farmers, Alex and Ben, must independently choose between two farming techniques: 'Eco-friendly' or 'Conventional'. The payoff for each farmer depends on the choices made by both, as shown in the matrix below (Alex's payoff, Ben's payoff).

Ben: Eco-friendlyBen: Conventional
Alex: Eco-friendly(6, 6)(1, 8)
Alex: Conventional(7, 2)(3, 1)

Assume Alex's utility is calculated as U_Alex = Payoff_Alex + (k * Payoff_Ben), where 'k' is a coefficient representing the weight Alex places on Ben's well-being. If Alex is purely self-interested (k=0), 'Conventional' is his dominant strategy.

Calculate the minimum value of the altruism coefficient 'k' that would make 'Eco-friendly' the new dominant strategy for Alex. Explain your reasoning by showing the calculations for both of Ben's possible actions.
