Development of Canals during the British Industrial Revolution

To facilitate the movement of heavy goods like coal and iron, Britain constructed an extensive network of canals during the Industrial Revolution. This new transportation system dramatically lowered the cost and increased the speed of shipping raw materials and manufactured products, effectively creating a more integrated national market.
