pregnant women with COVID-19 are more likely to be hospitalized and are at increased risk for  intensive care unit (ICU) admission and receipt of mechanical ventilation than nonpregnant women.  CDC is collaborating with state, local, and territorial health departments and external partners to better understand COVID-19 during pregnancy. 

Tracking data on COVID-19 during pregnancy can protect pregnant women and their babies.

When pregnant women do become infected with COVID-19, they are significantly more likely to need to be admitted to the hospital and to need help with breathing (mechanical ventilation) than women infected with COVID-19 who aren’t pregnant. However, pregnant women and women who are not pregnant are equally likely to recover from the virus.
