Diabetes Medication on COVID-19 Mortality

Diabetes medications appear to have differential associations with COVID-19 mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes. In a case series from Lombardy, Italy, insulin and β-blocker use were associated with higher mortality rates, while elevated plasma glucose and IL-6 levels at admission were independently associated with higher mortality, though type 2 diabetes itself was not independently associated with mortality risk after adjusting for age and sex.
