Difficulty in Interpreting Suicide Rates
Accurately determining suicide rates can be challenging because some deaths that are officially recorded as accidents, such as automobile crashes, may have been intentional acts of suicide. This potential for misclassification means that the true number of suicides might be higher than what official statistics report.
