Dissociation of Sexual Motivation and Ability in Humans

Similar to findings in animal studies, sexual motivation and the physical capability to engage in sexual behavior can operate independently in humans. This functional separation is supported by the widespread use of medical treatments for erectile dysfunction, which restore physical ability without necessarily altering the underlying sexual desire.
