In Chapter 30, Poem 26 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the concept of Divine self-sufficiency (Istighna) is explored through the metaphor of the veil and the game of love. The Divine is depicted as fashioning the veil of creation to play the game of love exclusively with Himself. Because the Beloved is absolutely complete and absorbed in His own perfection, He never steps outside of Himself to attend to the human lover. This highlights the mystical paradox of the seeker's longing for a Beloved who is entirely independent and self-contained within His own eternal self-play.
