Revisions and Focus of the DSM-5

The DSM-5, published in 2013, introduced significant revisions to psychiatric diagnosis. While the manual's physical size increased, the number of official disorders was reduced to 237, down from 297 in the DSM-IV. Key changes included reorganizing and renaming disorder categories and updating diagnostic criteria. A notable new emphasis was placed on the importance of considering gender and cultural differences when evaluating the expression of symptoms.
