Elinor Ostrom (1933–2012)

Elinor Ostrom (1933–2012) was a political scientist and economist whose academic career was centered on the role of property. She is renowned for her analysis of common-pool resources, and in 2009, she became the first woman to co-receive the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. Although not widely known among many economists at the time, her work was recognized by influential figures like Vernon Smith for its originality, scientific common sense, and careful, data-driven approach. Her research is exemplified by publications such as the 2008 article 'The Challenge of Common-Pool Resources'.
