Those who are more in tune with their own emotions and others' (i.e a higher EI)are likely to be more successful. They also tend to pursue higher academic goals and are less deviant than those with lower EI.

Developed by Schutte et al. (1998), this measure of EI contains 33 self-rated items and includes 4 dimensions:
- appraisal of self‐emotions
- appraisal of others' emotions
- regulation of emotions 
- use of emotions

Each item is answered on a five‐point Likert scale (1 = strongly disagree–5 = strongly agree), and the four dimensios are summed to produce an EI score. 

Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS)

Using cross-sectional surveys given to nursing students at two junior colleges (n=347) and SPSS, Guo et. al. aimed to explore nursing students' academic procrastination and its relationship with emotional intelligence (EI) and self‐efficacy, and self‐efficacy's mediation of the relationship between EI and academic procrastination. Emotional intelligence (EI) and self‐efficacy were found to be negatively associated with academic procrastination. Students who reported lower EI and self‐efficacy may be at a higher risk of academic procrastination.

Guo et. al. pose that a larger focus on these influencing factors can help nursing educators and consultants develop intervention measures aimed at decreasing students' procrastination behavior.

Academic Procrastination and Emotional Intelligence 

Evidence suggests that those with higher levels of emotional intelligence have better fake news detection than those with lower levels of emotional intelligence. This is particularly true if the fake news is emotional in nature.
