Empirical Evidence on Unemployment Benefits and Unemployment Rates

Contrary to the predictions of simple economic theory, empirical data from developed countries does not show a consistent positive correlation where more generous unemployment benefits lead to higher unemployment rates. In fact, several nations, such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands, demonstrate that it is possible to maintain low unemployment rates alongside very generous benefit systems.
