Environmental Impact of Capitalism

Capitalist economies, driven by the profit motive and competition, can lead to significant environmental degradation. This often occurs through 'externalities,' where the costs of pollution or resource depletion are not paid by the producers or consumers responsible. For example, a factory might pollute a river without bearing the cost of the environmental damage. This pursuit of profit without accounting for environmental side-effects has contributed to major issues like climate change, habitat loss, and pollution.
